Itinerary
Day 1 — Marrakech and the Ourika Valley
We collect you in Marrakech and drive out to the Ourika Valley in the foothills of the High Atlas, stopping at Berber villages along the river for lunch. Back in the city, the rest of the day is free before the first night.
Day 2 — Marrakech
A full day in Marrakech with a guide: the Saadian Tombs, the Bahia and El Badi palaces, the Koutoubia, the medina and its souks, and the Djemaa el-Fna as it fills up in the evening.
Day 3 — Marrakech to Rabat via Casablanca
We drive north to Casablanca to see the Hassan II Mosque, which stands out over the Atlantic, then continue to Rabat for the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, the Hassan Tower and the Kasbah of the Oudayas. Overnight in Rabat.
Day 4 — Rabat to Fes via Volubilis and Meknes
Heading inland we stop at Volubilis, the largest and best-preserved Roman site in Morocco, then at Meknes, the imperial city of Moulay Ismail, before arriving in Fes for the night.
Day 5 — Fes
A full day in the Fes medina: the Bou Inania school, the shrine of Moulay Idriss II, the great mosques, and the Nejjarine square with its eighteenth-century fountain. We stay the night in the medina.
Day 6 — Fes to Merzouga
We cross the Middle Atlas through Ifrane and the cedar forest at Azrou, then Midelt and the Ziz Valley, reaching Erfoud and Rissani before the dunes of Merzouga. In the late afternoon we ride camels to a desert camp for dinner around the fire and a night in a tent.
Day 7 — Merzouga to the Todra Gorge
After sunrise and breakfast we travel west, with a stop in Rissani, to the Todra Gorge, where the cliffs close in to a narrow corridor above the river. Overnight near the gorge.
Day 8 — Todra Gorge to the Dades Valley
A shorter day following the old kasbah road into the Dades Valley, with its switchback gorge road and eroded rock formations. Overnight in the valley.
Day 9 — Dades Valley to Marrakech
We drive through the Valley of the Roses and the Skoura oasis to Ait Ben Haddou, the fortified earthen city on the UNESCO list, then cross the Tizi n'Tichka pass (2,260 m) back to Marrakech.
Day 10 — Departure
We transfer you to Marrakech airport for your flight home.
