Itinerary
Day 1 — Tangier to Chefchaouen
We drive south into the Rif via Tetouan, reaching Chefchaouen in the early afternoon with time to wander its blue lanes.
Day 2 — Chefchaouen to Fes via Volubilis and Meknes
We stop at the Roman ruins of Volubilis and the imperial gates of Meknes on the way to Fes, where we spend the night.
Day 3 — Fes
A full day with a local guide in the medina: the tanneries, the Al Qarawiyyin mosque and university, and the souks that surround them.
Day 4 — Fes to Beni Mellal
We cross the Middle Atlas through Ifrane's cedar forest and the town of Khenifra, following the plains south to Beni Mellal, at the foot of the Atlas, for the night.
Day 5 — Beni Mellal to Marrakech via the Ouzoud Falls
A detour to the Ouzoud waterfalls, Morocco's highest, where the Oued el-Abid drops nearly 100 metres in stages through the rock — often with a rainbow in the spray and troops of Barbary macaques nearby. From there it's a straightforward drive to Marrakech.
Day 6 — Marrakech
A guided day through the medina: the Bahia Palace, the Saadian Tombs, the Koutoubia mosque and gardens, and the souks around the Jemaa el-Fna.
